About Gretchen McCracken Nealon

Gretchen Nealon has taught music for more than twenty-five years, first as a band and orchestra instructor and then as a private instructor of music. After fifteen years teaching private students at a now closed Crofton music store called S&S Music, she has ventured out to create her own music studio in her nearby childhood home.

Music Background

Gretchen began taking music lessons as a child.  Her childhood strings instructor was a professional violinist and the former principal violinist of the London Symphony Orchestra.  She began piano lessons at the same time and studied with members of the Army Field Band.  She has also studied percussion with members of the Navel Academy Band and Dr. Cort McClaren. She was a piano major for two years in college before switching to music education, where she learned the other orchestral and band instruments.  She has been a percussionist for many years with various Maryland and DC orchestras.

Instruments Taught

Gretchen specializes in piano and orchestra/band instruments.  In brass, Gretchen most often teaches the tuba, trombone, trumpet, and baritone.  In woodwinds, she most often teaches oboe, flute, clarinet, and saxophone.  She teaches the strings, including violin, viola, cello, and bass.  Of course, she also has many piano students, and she also teaches percussion.

Students Taught

Gretchen teaches lessons to all ages from children aged 6 to adult.

Location

Gretchen has served the Crofton, Bowie, Millersville, and Gambrills area for many years.  She now teaches from her dedicated studio on Maryland Route 3/Crain Highway in Millersville, Maryland.  However, she is also able to teach lessons through Skype all around the world.
